President's Message

Hi Coaches,

This morning I opened my eyes thinking and feeling this, “I can’t believe we’ve been through a whole year since the state of CT took Covid 19 measures.” This plus unlimited admiration for the shifts and changes we as a chapter (steered by our dynamic, collaborative board) and each of you individually have made in response to the ongoing challenges inherent in this crisis. We are a creative and resilient bunch!

While so much has accelerated sinch last March: ways of working, company operations, financial and geographic decisions and challenges to societal structures, the coaching industry has also continued to grow and evolve. In light of factors such as increased use of technology, new additions to the field of coaching and the adoption of coaching as a standard professional development tool, ICF Global has been hard at work refining its mission, vision and strategic plan.

This exciting work, already underway before last year, supports us (the lifeblood of ICF) as together we support your success and growth as a coach and bring the coaching profession to the next level.

How does this affect you?

There are 6 defined domains through which you can participate, learn, grow and connect with ICF. Some of them are newly created and others have been expanded and refined: Professional Coaches, Credentials and Standards, Coach Training, Foundation, Coaching in Organizations (new), Thought Leadership (new).

  • The revamped core competencies will be implemented for credential renewal 2021.
  • There’s new branding for you to use in your email signature, on your website and on your social media. This includes member and credential achievement badges.
  • Down the road…ICF Global will be offering an easier to use platform for participating in professional development making it easier for us to upload CEUs from our Connecticut offerings into your profile on the global site as you gather your professional development credits or credentialing or renewal.
  • There’s so much more… Explore here. https://coachingfederation.org/

ICF-CT is here to support you.

Need help implementing the new branding? Contact our Marketing Chair Stephanie Tishler marketing@icf-ct.org

And, if you want to poke around the ICF Global site, or our ICF-CT site with a buddy? Let me know.

Or, If we haven’t had a chance to get to know one another, let’s change that!

Believing in you,

Judy

Nominations Reminder

Reminder! … Nomination season is underway and we need your help!

We’re looking for a few eager coaches to help us lead our chapter in 2021-22, by becoming members of the board.

This week, we’re putting a spotlight on finding a Chair for Virtual Meeting Management. This position offers terrific professional benefits including the opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of Zoom facilitation from our resident experts, and the chance to liaison with the speaker of the month. While some experience with zoom is helpful, our current team is ready to teach you the ropes and support you in the role.

Other open positions include:
  • On-Site Meeting Management Chair (for when we can convene again in person!)
  • Programs Co-Chairs, (A strong committee is already in place.)
The current board members in all these roles are available to speak with, if you’d like to learn about them. Here is a link to the Board

If you, or someone you know, has questions or might be interested, please contact Monica Leggett or Judy Garfinkel. One more idea … If you’d like to get involved with the Chapter but not be on the Board, please consider joining a committee whose work appeals to you. Here’s a link to our committees.

We look forward to your participation!

ICF CCEs:  1.5 Core Competency

How well we weather life's struggles depends largely on our resilience. Do we sink or swim? Do we rise or fall? When we're flat on our face, will we ever find our footing again? One of the single most important predictors of the outcome is not our sheer grit or determination; rather (and perhaps surprisingly) it is our vulnerability, curiosity, and self-compassion that determine our capacity to survive and even thrive. This 90-minute webinar will provide an overview of some core concepts from the Rising Strong Workshop, a 16-hour deep dive into cultivating resilience and wholeheartedness. Join us for this interactive and engaging session.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Identify the ways our stories of struggle and the emotions that hook us cause us to stumble and fall.
  • Cultivate resilience through a daily practice of vulnerability, curiosity, and wholeheartedness.
  • Embrace self-compassion as an essential part of resilience.
