Anyone who has personally had difficulty changing a behavior that is clearly irrational knows that coaching for behavioral changes is not solely about logic. In fact, coaching for any change, rational or not, is more impactful and successful when the coach has significant knowledge and competency in the field of emotional intelligence. And yet the field is filled with people claiming expertise who are simply recycling programs dealing with conflict, communications, motivation, and influence.

What is truly new that has improved a coach's ability to help clients?

During this presentation, Chuck will share a case study involving one such widely recognized and accepted template for guiding coaches in deploying emotional intelligence in a way that enhances results. Breakouts will provide participants with a chance to use their emotional abilities. The template or process is the Emotion Roadmap, and it was developed while Chuck worked closely with Yale President Peter Salovey and his colleagues who are known as the true pioneers in EI. Chuck will share with you their ability-based model of emotional intelligence and demonstrate how combining this knowledge with the Emotion Roadmap generates high levels of coaching success.

Coaches who understand and use the Emotion Roadmap with clients enhance the opportunity for successful outcomes. Also, the Emotion Roadmap can help coaches and clients manage their own emotions and help them improve relationships at work, home, and in communities.

In this presentation, coaches will learn strategies to:

  • Use the Emotion Roadmap to enhance coaching skills
  • Manage emotions, your own and others
  • Emotionally prepare for sessions
  • Understand how style interacts with emotional intelligence
  • Understand the value of knowing your own and your client’s emotional abilities
  • Use the Emotion Roadmap to enhance relationships at work, home, and in communities.

Pre-Work: Important to participant understanding of the field of Emotional Intelligence and the unique role of the ability-based model of EI, participants will be asked in advance of this session to review the chapter Successful Coaches Influence Emotions, Thoughts, and Behaviors which is provided with registration.
